Here close to the city where I live there is another city (this much older, Sabara, the time of slavery, there was plenty of gold) that has a chapel with a room completely full of ex-votos. Interesting how the tradition got through the centuries and still manifest today.

Thank you for sharing! I would love to see it. Yesterday I was looking at some of my old photos...one year ago I was in Switzerland...and visited a medical museum which had a lot of ex votos too...so, so interesting. I would like to go there again!

I have a collection of Spanish Colonial art of New Mexico, old Mexico and South America. One interesting piece is an ex voto commissioned by a man who was rescued from an attack by bandits. It is more primitive than the lovely Swiss examples, but certainly conveys the message.

Margaret Lambert, you own the most wonderful things, I think! I would love to see your Mexican ex voto! So fascinating with ex votos...one can't stop wondering about the story behind each image..."a piece of a human life" in painting!

Dear Aputsiaq, I decided at a very early age, about 4, that I would live with wonderful things. I have been very lucky to have them come my way. We create our environment around us, in our homes, and it should be very special and specific to us.
