Shoes with criss-cross laces became known as Tango shoes
in the 1910s and early 1920s when the Tango was popular.
They were best displayed when a woman extended her ankle
while being dipped by her partner...wow!

Oh...i´m proud that Tango is from my country...in Buenos Aires you could see some shows of people dancing just in the street, thanks for teh post. :)
I adore the tango shoes too...and i can't dance either, Anna...and I would look so silly if I tried to :O))
Maria, I've seen the dancing in the steets on the telly...so amazing. And such a 'strong' dance!
I love the Tango, everything about it excites me. My parents danced beautifully and my older brother and his wife too. Even the generations that came after me like, like Astor Piazzolla and others. A big gift to the world of hermanos.
