Well, but chance I found this great homepage - 'Oxford May Music' - about the celebration of May Day in Oxford, UK: It says that 'May Day has been celebrated in England since the time of the Romans; the festival of Flora, Goddess of fruit and flowers, ran from April 28th to May 3rd.
